A Luxuriously Soft, Comfortable, and High-Performance Jersey

This summer, I reviewed Machines For Freedom’s (MMF) new line of trail gear, a new category for this manufacturer who has been traditionally designing road gear. The company has now come out with their Trail jersey, perfect for trail or road rides.

As soon as you slip on this jersey, you notice how next to the skin soft it is, and that’s because it’s made from 100% plant-based Micromodal fabric. This is a fabric I’m not familiar with, and I checked it out on the internet. Micromodal is basically the same as Modal, except a finer, lighter knit.

Considered eco-friendly, Modal is made from beech tree pulp which requires little water to grow. There are chemicals used in the production process, and it is a type of rayon.

There are 12 benefits of using and wearing Modal fabric, which translates to the perfect material for constructing a cycling jersey.

  1. Stretchy
  2. Soft
  3. Breathable
  4. Water absorbent. Modal is 50% more absorbent than cotton.
  5. Durable
  6. Drapes well
  7. Eco-friendly.
  8. Doesn’t pill
  9. Colorfast
  10. Doesn’t shrink
  11. Biodegradable
  12. Doesn’t crease

Micromodal is 50% more absorbent than cotton giving this jersey excellent moisture management and breathability. The front closures are snaps, which is not my preference since it requires two hands to open or close. While riding, I like to unzip or zip with one hand to adjust my body temperature.

The ¾ length sleeves and UPF 50+ protection provide ample coverage from harmful UV rays and great options during the shoulder seasons. Three rear pockets offer plenty of secure storage for nutrition, money, keys, and whatnot. Unfortunately, there is very little reflective material on this jersey, so it’s harder to be seen in lowlight conditions, especially the black version.

Three rear pockets and minimal reflective elements

The trail jersey comes in 2 colors, black and a beautiful cobalt blue. In true MMF fashion, the company offers extended sizing from XXS to 3XL. It truly fits almost every body type.

Bottom Line

Machines for Freedoms new Trail jersey is super soft, comfortable, and doesn’t skimp on performance. Available in a wide range of women’s sizes, this jersey is an excellent addition to any gravel, trail, or roadie out there.
