Female Voice (of reason?), Product Review Crew

I’ve loved biking all my life and became a true roadie about 25 years ago. I’ve competed in time trials, triathlons and recently started fat biking. In 2014, at the age of 51, I checked off a full AquaBike race from my bucket list (that’s a 2.4-mile swim and 112-mile bike – the swim and bike legs of an Ironman).

I’m an advocate to getting more people to join the sport of cycling, especially women. To empower women of any ability and fitness level, I started a blog https://sunflowersandpedals.com/ and and run a women’s cycling Facebook group with over 300 members. I’ve been an ambassador for major brands, most recently as a Trek Women’s Advocate 2018-2020. As the Midwest Strava Ambassador from 2013-2015, I had a platform to promote cycling and encourage women to leverage the app. Pearl Izumi selected me to be part of their first Women’s Ride Champion team in 2016. In 2018 I became a Jules Threads ambassador and in 2017 an ambassador for Venus de Miles ride. I also share my passion for cycling and triathlon as a previous board member and currently a volunteer with an amazing organization, Dare2tri Paratriathlon Club.

For 17 years I was on the board of the Wheeling Wheelmen cycling club. This is one of the largest bike clubs in the Chicagoland area. I’m also a member of the Barrington Bicycle Club, Elmhurst Bicycle Club, and Bicycle Club of Lake County.

I own seven bikes: three road bikes (2 Treks and an Independent Fabrication), a gravel bike, mountain bike, cyclocross and a fat tire bike. They all have names and get ridden regularly!

If any of RBR’s female readers have a female-focused question about any aspect of cycling, spot a particular product or piece of gear that you think might be worthy of review, etc., I encourage you to contact me, below. That’s the best thing about RBR: No matter what our level of experience as roadies, we all are constantly learning (and re-learning).

    Your story is so inspirational!
How can one reach you? I have a coaching business, Pedaling Partner, to help people return to biking: http://www.pedalingpartner.com.
“Everyone” in the bicycling business thnks it’s a great idea. And the stores in my area try to promote my idea and me, but people who stopped or don’t ride for whatever reason don’t go into bike stores! I have ridden Treks since I started riding at age 50 and love them. Are there any ambassadors in MA (I live outside Worcester) or New England that I could talk to and collaborate with? One thing I’m trying to figure out is how we get someone a bike to try to see if they like biking before having to buy one.
I’d so appreciate help in contacting the ambassador program other than just applying to be one. Thank you.

    1. Elizabeth,
Sorry for the delay in responding to you. I just saw your post. There is a Trek Women’s Advocate that works with Competitive Edge in East Longmeadow, MA. You can reach out to them and ask to be connected to their Trek Advocate.
