As a cyclist, finding the right nutrition can make or break your ride. I recently put Flow Formulas’ Endurance Drink Mix and Chews to the test, and here’s what I found.
The Story Behind Flow Formulas
Flow Formulas was born out of necessity. Co-founder Hannah, a competitive runner, struggled to find corn-free endurance sports drinks due to her multiple allergies. As a registered dietitian, she created her own formula, which eventually led to the establishment of Flow Formulas in 2017 alongside Caleb, a PhD chemistry student and collegiate mountain bike racer.
Endurance Drink Mix
While the Endurance Drink Mix is not new, the larger bag is. The mix itself works well, but the pouch needs some refinement, as I couldn’t get it to reseal and had to use a clip to secure it closed.
The standard single-serving size of the Endurance Drink Mix is two scoops, providing 60 grams of carbs, 240 calories, and 390mg of sodium.
The fine powder, almost like baby powder, is not granular like some mixes and dissolves easily in water. I tested the orange-flavored blend, which was tasty but not overly sweet, considering a serving contains 27 grams of sugar and is right in line with other endurance mix brands.

For most test rides, I used two scoops, but on more challenging rides, I bumped it up to three scoops for 90 grams of carbs. Depending on the duration, intensity, and temperature of the ride, I mixed it in individual bottles or in a 2.5-liter hydration pack bladder.
I tested it on a 72-mile fast group ride in 90-degree heat, a moderate-paced 75-mile hilly invitational ride, and several 50+ mile trail rides. The Flow Formulas mix performed well, and I experienced no GI distress.
Additionally, Flow offers flavorless options, including high-sodium and low-sodium formulas.
Endurance Chews
The company’s new Endurance Chews are formulated with the same carbohydrate ratio as their Endurance Mix.
As with any chew, there are only 34 grams of carbs in a five-chew package, so you’ll need to consume two packages each hour to stay on top of your nutrition.

The pineapple passion fruit flavor I tested was tasty without being overpowering. The chews are gentle on the stomach and don’t stick to your teeth, making them a great on-the-bike option.
Bottom Line
Both the Endurance Drink Mix and Chews from Flow Formulas performed well, tasted good, and did not cause any GI distress. There are a variety of flavors to pick from, including flavorless drink mix, to keep you energized for rides lasting over an hour or two.
