Fierce Hazel True Grit Handlebar and Saddle Bags – Quick Review

By Sheri Rosenbaum

(handlebar and saddle bags)

Founder Frankie Holt out for a ride.

If you are a regular reader of my reviews, you know I’m always on the lookout for quality products produced and sold by women-owned businesses. I believe supporting women who make a name for themselves in a male-dominated industry is important.

I recently found a new company to add to my growing list ― Feirce Hazel. Frankie Holt founded this cycling accessory business out of necessity. She was looking for something that didn’t exist ― a small technical pouch to keep her stuff safe and organized while on the bike.

With the cycling industry notoriously known for not being environmentally friendly when it comes to fabric choices, Fierce Hazel uses fabric remnants rather than new material to create their gear. I applaud the company’s important mission to sell products that are sustainably made by hand at a factory in Vietnam that pays a living wage and has reasonable working hours and a good work environment.

In April, the company announced its True Grit Collection, its first on-the-bike bags, and they hit a home run on every detail. The inspiration for the True Grit name comes from the independent and headstrong character Mattie Ross in the 1968 movie. The company stays true to its mission by constructing both bags from an eco-friendly fabric that is durable, weatherproof, and stain-resistant. These bags are perfect for a gravel ride or commuting and withstand rain, mud, or snow.

Both bags offer the following features:

  • Light attachment patch
  • Interior key fob
  • Waterproof 210D ripstop interior
  • YKK waterproof zipper
  • Hypalon light attachment
  • EVA foam lining helps keep the bag’s shape and shock protection
  • Reflective strip for increased visibility

Bottom Line

Fierce Hazel brought their “A” game for its first foray into the on-the-bike bags. The saddle and handlebar bag are designed and constructed with the cyclist in mind and have almost every feature you want. I think this is just the beginning of many bags to be offered by Frankie Holt and her team.
