Anti-Aging: Nutrition, Part 1: Daily Food and Drink

By Coach John Hughes

I write many columns about the effects of aging on our bodies and the different types of physical activities that will help slow — and in some cases reverse — the aging process. Physical activities are one very important component of aging well but only one component. I recently wrote two broader columns on different ways to deal with getting older. Read more.

Build Belief, Tap Into It: ‘Examine’ Each Ride

By Kevin Kolodziejski

Of Socrates and Cyclists

What do you sometimes share in common with that esteemed Greek philosopher, not when you are discussing virtue, justice, and piety with fellow citizens but when you are pedaling Treks, Giants, and Cervelos with fellow cyclists? You generate outrage in . . . shall we say? . . . less-than-enlightened individuals. Flat Protection – Belts and Suspenders

By Greg Conderacci

Recently, RBR launched this new series to enlighten our ultra-cool readers about the benefits of dorkiness. In Part I, we explored screening your helmet; in Part II, we messed with your handlebars; in Part III, we reflectorized your machine.

Today, we’re touching on the delicate subject of flats. Those of you with tubeless tires are probably asking, “What’s a flat?”  That’s cool.  But, just in case… Read more.

Know Your Enemy

By Martin Sigrist

Takeaway: Cycling is a test of endurance, the challenges you face are not just other riders. To be successful requires overcoming personal trials. These are your real enemies even if they exist only in your imagination. They have names:  pain, fatigue, monotony, discomfort, malnutrition, fear, bad luck and hopelessness. Training must therefore aim to do more than just increase fitness. It must also build the mental strengths and skillsets to know these enemies, to prepare for them and overcome them. Read more.

Best Cargo Ebikes Under $3,000

By Stan Purdum

Cargo-carrying ebikes are hot items these days. Even before electrification, cargo bikes were a good idea, especially for people living in urban areas where the bikes could replace cars for many errands. Eating & Drinking Like the Pros

In Eating and Drinking Like the Pros, Coach John Hughes researched what riders in the pro peloton eat before, during and after a race. The answers may surprise you in terms of the variety and seemingly unusual nature of some of their food and drink. But the findings hold lessons and benefits for cyclists at all levels. We all require energy and replenishment of lost minerals and nutrients when we ride. Eating and drinking like the pros offers us the same nutritional benefits, which we can customize to our own needs – typically at a fraction of the cost of commercial sports food and drink, if we choose to make our own.

Question of the Week
