Trek Launches Free Bike Tire Recycling Program Nationwide

news

Trek Bicycle has partnered with Liberty Tire Recycling to create the first nationwide bicycle tire recycling program in the United States. Starting December 4, cyclists can drop off their used bicycle tires at any Trek-owned store for free recycling.

The program aims to address the environmental impact of bicycle tire waste. With more than 50 million Americans cycling at least once a year, the initiative provides a solution for disposing of worn-out tires that would otherwise end up in landfills.

“We’re committed to running our business as sustainably as possible,” said Trek Brand Director Andrew Dutton. “Joining this tire recycling effort lets us give riders an easy way to recycle their old bike tires responsibly—and we’re proud to be part of it.”

Liberty Tire Recycling, which already processes more than 205 million end-of-life tires annually, will handle the recycling process. The company repurposes tire materials for use in landscaping, sustainable asphalt, tracks, and athletic fields.

“We believe that every tire has more than one life to live, and we are thrilled to expand that vision to bike tires through our partnership with Trek,” said Amy Brackin, Senior Vice President of Sustainability for Liberty Tire Recycling.

Participating Trek stores will have “Retire Your Tires” collection boxes where cyclists can drop off their used tires. Cyclists can find their nearest participating store at trekbikes.com/us/en_US/free-bike-tire-recycling/.

The program currently operates only at Trek-owned stores in North America, though the company hopes to expand it in the future. There is no limit on the number of tires cyclists can recycle through the program.
