Refreshing, Light, and Not Overly Sweet

Only a day after samples of Tailwind’s new Mango Yuzu Endurance Fuel arrived at my home, I hopped on my bike for a test ride. If I’m totally honest, I’ve had mangos in the past, but I had no idea what yuzu was.

After finishing my ride, I Googled “what is yuzu?” and discovered that it is a small, round citrus fruit native to Japan and some parts of East Asia. When ripe, it has thick, bumpy, yellow skin. The fruit resembles a small, bumpy yellow or green grapefruit. Its complex flavor is a mix of lemon, mandarin, and grapefruit.

I found this limited-edition flavor to be light, not overly sweet, and refreshing. The only very sweet part is that Tailwind will donate 10% of sales from this new flavor to The Conservation Alliance. The money will help support the organization’s mission of protecting North America’s wild places.

“When we think about why Tailwind Nutrition exists, the answer always starts in the same place: the outdoors,” explains Jenny Vierling, co-founder of Tailwind Nutrition. “Every product Tailwind produces is intended for people who feel most alive outside, whether on a trail, a gravel road, or a mountain top. We are proud to support the work of The Conservation Alliance to protect wild places across North America and preserve access for all recreational users.”

As with all of Tailwind’s Endurance Fuels, mix one single-serving pack with 20-24 ounces of water per hour. Each serving contains 200 calories and 51 grams of carbs, making Endurance Fuel a suitable substitute for food. It provides the energy and electrolytes you need to stay fueled and hydrated.

I had no gut issues during any of my test rides since the mix uses all-natural flavors and ingredients, plus it’s non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free.

Starting May 4th, the Mango Yuzu flavor will be available for sale in boxes of six, single-stick packs for $16.50.
