Nature break friendly bib design
I’m always on the lookout for a comfortable pair of bibs that are nature break friendly. When I opened my inbox and read REGGIE launched their version of women’s drop bottom bibs, you know I contacted the company for a test pair. A week later, the Classy Pink Dropper Bibs showed up at my house.
The key to how these bibs work is the mix of fabric in the bottoms and the straps, along with an open back design. This allows the bottoms to easily pull down while the bib straps stretch to the sides. From testing other drop bottom bibs, I knew the trick was to bend over first, then pull the shorts down. This technique provides more slack to the straps.
The mesh bib straps, medium compression fabric and women’s Dolomiti chamois combine for a very comfortable bib. I reviewed the Classy Pink Bibs last summer and while I liked them, there were two features I preferred on the Dropper bibs. First, the Dolomiti chamois was more comfortable on longer rides and the bib straps were black and pink. I had dinged the Classy Pink Bibs for having white bib straps. Over time, white fabric shows dirt while the black/pink does a better job of hiding it.
For women who have been on the fence about trying bibs, the $110 price tag is budget friendly. Plus, with the drop bottom it overcomes ones of the major objections to wearing bibs — nature breaks.
Shorts that eliminate the dreaded muffin top
In addition to the Dropper Bibs, REGGIE launched a new style of shorts with a yoga pants inspired waist band. The new design addresses the concern women have with traditional shorts — muffin top. Most narrow waist bands are not flattering and can put pressure around the belly area. The Namaste No-Bib Shorts eliminate all these issues, plus provides a smooth silhouette.
The bottoms of these shorts are the same as the Dropper Bibs, using the same Dolomiti chamois and leg grippers. The overall comfort is very good and the waistband stays in place.
The Namaste shorts are priced right at $95 and can take you into the colder weather when worn under tights or with leg warmers.
Bottom line
REGGIE launched two winners this year with the easy nature break Dropper bib and the comfortable Namaste short. The fabric used in both styles is high quality and opaque, eliminating any concerns of a see-thru back side. Also, there’s reflective piping on the leg for added visibility in low light. Finally, with just a touch of pink they’re fashionable without being over the top girlie.
I know this is a bigger issue for women than men, but as a guy it still bothers me, especially on winter centuries or Brevets. My solution has been to ditch the ridiculous Bibs and go with SUSPENDERS. Clip on work fine, but sewing some buttons on your shorts/tights is more secure. I keep thinking about trying velcro, but i doubt it would be any more secure than clip ons. I don’t know why no one makes shorts with detachable bib straps, especially for you ladies. TRY suspenders! you can get narrow, wide, whatever you want.
