Today’s QT dovetails perfectly with today’s Ask the Coach, about which dealing with gloves on rides that start cold but finish warmer, or the other way around.
Our RBR Review Crew member Paul Smith (who also wrote today’s Review of the Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Short Sleeve Rain Jacket), sent in the following, which provides a couple of specific glove choices that work well for him:
It was 30F at home when I left for the ride and I always have issues knowing which gloves to wear. I find a layered approach works well for me, usually going for a heavy over glove. However, it was supposed to warm up to 45F, and I wanted something that would not make my hands sweaty later.
I have been a big fan of these Defeet gloves for a while now – anything 50F or above and they do the job. I also recently picked up Head running gloves at Costco, since they were priced right at about $13.
I put the Defeet gloves under the Head gloves, and it turned out great! Normally my hands would have been cold throughout the ride; not so today. The Defeet gloves breathe well, and the Head gloves block the wind and also seem to release moisture. I arrived home after just over an hour of riding in really good shape.
Now I just need something for my feet!
