Question: I have a CompuTrainer and a set of rollers. Currently, with no outdoor riding, I’m doing two days of weight lifting, three days on the CT, one day on rollers and one day off. Each workout is about an hour long. Am I doing it right? — Jon P.
Coach Fred Matheny Replies: Your schedule sounds great — as long as you don’t burn out on indoor riding. As you know, it can get mighty boring.
My suggestion: Drop one of the CompuTrainer sessions and take an additional day off each week if you start feeling any mental strain from indoor training. Keep your enthusiasm for winter workouts so they’ll be more productive.
Remember, you get stronger when you rest and recover. Don’t make the mistake of pushing yourself to physical or mental fatigue in the middle of winter.
I’ve had a CompuTrainer for many years. I use it mainly for self-testing, to see how many watts I can push at a given heart rate. This helps make time on it more interesting.
