Anti-Aging New Exercise Recommendations

By Coach John Hughes

In my columns and eBooks I use the recommendations of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) on Exercise and Physical Activity for Older Adults. (2009). In 2018 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published Physical Activity for Americans, 2nd ed. The 118 pages include a chapter on Active Older Adults. This applies to all older adults. I found this very helpful book while doing research for my eBook Cycling in Your 70s, 80s and Beyond. The recommendations are similar to those of the ACSM; however, the new guidelines are more detailed. These are major conclusions: Read more.

Follow-ups: Your “Chamois Shift” Suggestions & My Recovery

By Jim Langley

Last week we were looking for solutions for RBRer Kenneth’s problem. As he rides, his chamois moves out of position eventually leaving one of his sit bones un-padded. Lots of roadies have saddle and shorts comfort issues so we thought we’d suggest a few for him and asked you to share yours.

If you didn’t read that story, here’s the link: Looking for Ideas to Fix Kenneth’s “Chamois Shift.” Read more.

Muc-Off eBike Drivetrain Tool Quick Review

By Sheri Rosenbaum and Mitch Rosset

EBike’s high torque motor makes drivetrain maintenance critical. However, if you are new to eBikes, you probably assume lubing the chain is the same as any other bike in your stable. Yep, that’s what Mitch thought, too, until he went to lube his new eBike for the first time. So you see, when you spin the crank backward on an eBike, the chain doesn’t move, making it virtually impossible to clean and lube. Read more.

Better Your Rides, Steer Clear of Tipping Points

By Kevin Kolodziejski

After reading this article, someone else might recall my first one for RBR and accuse me of contradicting myself.  But I believe that you, my friend, will not. That you’ll acknowledge the two seemingly disparate beliefs I present can indeed coexist. Read more.

Endura PRO SL Primaloft Gilet / Vest Review (Men’s and Women’s Versions)

By Sheri Rosenbaum

Keeping your core warm on chilly rides without overheating can be challenging. Endura’s PRO SL PrimaLoft vest is the perfect option. The packable vest uses windproof PrimaLoft GOLD fill on the front for insulation where it’s needed. Then use PrimaLoft Silver Active on the back to allow for breathability. Basically, it blocks the wind in the front while letting heat and moisture escape the back. The PrimaLoft Silver Active also has a bit of stretch to the fabric for added comfort and mobility. IZIP Vida E3 Ebike Review

By Stan Purdum

If you were to suddenly find yourself riding an IZIP Vida E3, you might not immediately realize it’s an ebike. It feels like a cruiser bike, with you seated in an upright position, and even with no assist level turned on, it rolls along easily on level ground. With the removable battery tidily positioned in the downtube, you can be excused for not noticing it’s there right away. And when you do start using the assist levels, the transition is so smooth, you might still be in disbelief — until, that is, you notice the display unit reporting your current speed at a higher number than you can normally pedal without help. GOREWEAR Torrent Jacket Review

By Rick Schultz

GOREWEAR sent a ‘spring’ jacket to take a look at. As always, GORE clothing is top quality and works as intended.

It’s still been warm in SoCal, so I’ve only been on a few rides with this jacket. Again, I am impressed with the quality of GORE. Always top quality and they pay attention to the small things, the details like just the right length sleeves and a back flap that is just long enough to keep the wet and cold out but not long enough to get hung up on the saddle. Can Intense Exercise Increase Your Risk for a Heart Attack?

By Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

On March 20, 2022, a 44-year-old woman died of a heart attack after finishing the Los Angeles Charity Challenge Half Marathon of a little over 13 miles in just under four hours. However, this event does not mean that vigorous exercise causes heart attacks; in a fit person, vigorous exercise helps to prevent heart attacks. Read more.
