A record 1,100 brands exhibited at this year’s Sea Otter show. Here are some quick notes from a few of the booths.
BMC debuting their new Roadmachine 01 with endurance geometry. Two versions, road and gravel. Road is 2x with ICS Evo cockpit and gravel 1x with MTT suspension stem. Both have integrated rear light and down tube storage. More info to come after Sheri test rides this bad boy in Saturday’s Sea Otter Classic Gran Fondo.
Trek launched their first rear radar, CarBack. List price $199. Sheri has been testing her sample for a few weeks and will have a full review in the near future. Trek was also showing their two new gravel tires and wheels. More to come on those in the near future.
Salsa showcased two new eGravel (Tributary and Confluence) and eMTB bikes.
KOM Cycling was showing 2 new rear radar mounts. One attaches to virtually any seat post including aero and the other is 3D printed and clips onto any saddlebag loop. They also launched a smaller version of their saddlebag with the radar mount integrated into the bag. Sheri previously reviewed the larger versio of this bag.
Smith released the Triad and Trace helmets with Aleck crash detection system integrated into the helmet. Sheri just received a sample helmet to test so watch for a review to come.
POC’s new sleek Procen Air aero helmet with an integrated removable shield releasing in June. EF Cycling team is currently wearing it in competition.
HydraPak launched a new water bottle with a built in filter that lasts for up to 1500 liters of water. They also have a flexible bottle, Stow, that is great for when you need extra hydration. Fits in a jersey pocket even when filled with 350 mL. Great for hot days. Freeze, put in your jersey pocket. It will keep you cool and slowly melt for extra hydration during your ride.
Camelbak launched Podium, a vacuum insulated steel or titanium water bottle in 18 and 22 oz. sizes. Keeps liquids cold for up to 18 hrs. (Corrected from aluminum.)
Fizik released the Vento Proxy gravel shoe and Powerstrap Aero weave, a mesh road shoe that’s highly ventilated. Sheri will be testing and reviewing both models.
Osprey launched the Escapist series of on bike and on body packs for bikepacking. Impressively designed.
Sugoi and Garneau are relaunching both brands. The samples they showed were very impressive and we look forward to getting our hands on samples to test/review.
Wahoo announced a firmware update giving users more control from the Wahoo head unit. Features include:
- Dark Mode: for those folks who like a dark background screen. It also saves battery life.
- Music control: lets you control different elements when listening to your favorite tunes or podcast during a ride.
- ANT+ smartlight controls: see the battery life for your lights, what mode they’re running in, and lets you turn them all on/off instead of hassling with each individually.
- Coming in a couple of weeks, GoPro controls: start/stop video, change modes, SD card memory remaining and other relevant info.
Keep track of your bike using satellite, unlike AirTags that use a cellular network — with SPOT Trace. (Sheri will be receiving a test sample and will post a review in the near future.)

What is the Podium bottle made of? The article says aluminum, but the label on the bottle says stainless steel.

I, too, was confused. They are steel or for the rich, titanium
