Quick Tip: Options for Shorter Cranks

By Rick Schultz

The more research that I do for my bike fit clients, the more that points to starting a bike fit with the correct length crank arms.

There are now two reasons to consider Rotor: 1) Crank Arms as short as 150mm. 2) Rotor now makes sub-compact (48/32) and a mini-compact (46-30) chainring options!

As an avid and moderately fit 74 year old cyclist with close to seven decades of experience on a road bike, I strongly encourage acquaintances to use short cranks, I use 160 mm (30” inseam) and might go to 155’s…..easier on old knees and higher cadence helps the heart pumping…..elipitical rings at higher cadence with high cadence makes it difficult to increase cadence adequately at the top/bottom of the stroke….stay with conventional round rings
