Your Answer for Sore Muscles
As the days get warmer our rides get more frequent and longer. Often with those longer days in the saddle, means some sore muscles. I recently discovered two KT Recovery+ products from the makers of KT Tape. A KT Recovery+ Ice/Heat Massage Ball and KT Recovery+ Pain Relief Gel.
I fell in love with the Massage Ball immediately since it provides a deep tissue massage with either heat or ice therapy. I unpacked the box and since the ice therapy ball (blue) needed to go in the freezer, I opted to try the heat first. I placed the red ball into the microwave for 20 seconds. Once warm place the ball into the silver steel ball and screws into the ergonomic housing. The steel ball heats up and is just luscious as I rolled it over sore muscles. I concentrated on my tight IT band as I sat on the couch to watch TV. Multi-tasking, as always.

Place a blue ball for ice and red for hot therapy
The steel ball can also be used without the housing on areas like the bottom of your foot.

I liked having a choice between hot or ice therapy and even switch mid massage as needed. Heat therapy is used to help loosen stiff muscles and improve range of motion. While cold therapy provides temporary relief of muscle pain and inflammation.
The massage ball can also be used for muscle knots also known as myofascial trigger points. The company suggests rolling the ball in a circular motion around the knot, or apply direct pressure to the top of the knot and move the ball in small circles around the area.
Note, the steel ball is a great conductor of the heat/cold and stays active for about 20-30 minutes. The instructions caution not to reheat the red ball until it fully cools down.
I did notice the red ball insert leaked a small amount of the internal fine sand-like material after each use. When I opened the steel ball, the material was at the bottom. I’m sure over time the hot ball will need to be replaced.
Pain Relief Gel for Cold/Warm Muscle Therapy
KT Recovery+ has a penetrating pain relief gel that contains naturally derived ingredients and micro-encapsulated menthol. The 97% natural formula has both active ingredients derived from plant sources with the active ingredients being menthol and camphor.

The gel goes on with a blend of a cool and warm sensation to the skin. The non-oily formula absorbs into the skin quickly and the menthol smell dissipates goes away shortly after applying. It was nice that I didn’t walk around smelling like menthol all day.
The Pain Relief Gel comes in a handy roll-on applicator or a tube and both sell for $15.99.
Bottom Line
Show your sore muscles some TLC as you ramp up the miles on the bike. KT Recovery+ products can be used individually or together.
