How obtained: Manufacturer provided sample at their cost for review.

For cyclists seeking high-performance illumination with thoughtful design, the Gaciron CETUS-1700 addresses several common lighting challenges. After testing it on several early morning rides, I liked how this light delivers up to a max of 1700 lumens of brightness with an intelligent cutoff pattern that prevents blinding oncoming traffic. This effectively solves the trade-off between seeing clearly and being considerate to others on the road. Its innovative under-bar mounting system declutters your cockpit while providing aerodynamic benefits, all backed by the extended battery life needed for long rides.

GoPro Style Under Computer Mounting System

What immediately sets the CETUS-1700 apart is its sophisticated mounting approach. Rather than competing for precious handlebar real estate, this light is specifically designed to mount underneath your computer mount, creating an integrated lighting and navigation system. The included mount accommodates both Garmin and Wahoo computers. I used a small Allen wrench to quickly reconfigure it for my Wahoo setup.

Typically you would not be able to install a headlight with a non-blinding low beam underneath your bike computer like this, because it would flip the light upside down and your low beam would then become a high beam. Gaciron specifically designed this light to mount underneath where the beam still works correctly in this position, solving that issue.

This under-bar positioning offers multiple advantages. It keeps your handlebars uncluttered, providing plenty of room for your hands without crowding multiple attachments. The light sits ahead of your head tube, positioned perfectly to illuminate the road while maintaining the anti-glare cutoff pattern that prevents blinding oncoming traffic, pedestrians, and other cyclists.

The aerodynamic benefits shouldn’t be overlooked either. Gaciron claims that the streamlined design reduces wind resistance by more than half compared to traditional bike lights. This makes aerodynamic sense — rather than having multiple components creating separate wind disturbances on your handlebars, the integrated mount consolidates your computer and light into a single streamlined unit positioned ahead of your head tube. This unified profile cuts through the air more efficiently than individual components scattered across your cockpit. For road cyclists focused on speed and efficiency, this translates to measurably better aerodynamics while still providing excellent illumination.

Smart Features That Actually Work

The CETUS-1700 includes intelligent vibration sensing that automatically manages the light’s operation. After sitting stationary for two minutes, it enters sleep mode to preserve battery life. When you start riding, the vibration from pushing off automatically activates the light.

The CETUS-1700 offers six distinct lighting modes to match various riding conditions. The highest setting provides the full 1700 lumens in both high and low beam configurations (approximately 2 hours runtime), with the high beam extending reach for off-road or unlit areas while the low beam maintains the anti-glare cutoff for urban riding. A secondary high and low beam setting delivers 900 lumens for situations requiring less intensity but still substantial illumination (approximately 3.5 hours runtime). I found the 900 lumen setting to be so bright that I didn’t even really need the 1700 setting, but I appreciated having it just for the extra visibility on rides under two hours.

Two dedicated low beam modes at 600 lumens (approximately 4 hours) and 300 lumens (approximately 7 hours) provide excellent efficiency and still give you enough light for extended rides. The light also includes breathe mode at 50-100 lumens for extended visibility (approximately 20 hours) and a 600-lumen flash mode for maximum conspicuity during daylight hours (approximately 24 hours). The 1700 lumen maximum output proved fairly indistinguishable from my Raptor-1800 in real-world conditions, providing more than adequate brightness for road riding even at lower settings.

Installation and Usability

While setup is generally straightforward, I initially struggled with the handlebar attachment until I emailed Gaciron for help and they explained that the mount accommodates multiple bar sizes. All you have to do is take out one of the silicone grip inserts. Once I figured this out, installation was quick and secure.

The mounting system’s buckle design allows instant removal while maintaining rock-solid stability during riding, even on rough road sections. It slides in and clicks securely into place.

The wireless remote control works as advertised, allowing you to cycle through the six brightness levels without removing your hands from the bars. However, I found the buttons on the light itself easily accessible enough that the remote felt like overkill for my road riding needs. I like the idea of how you can install the button so it’s on your hoods and easy to click while you’re gripping the bars. But it’s not something that I found myself needing to do, so I just left the remote at home after the first ride.

Performance and Battery Life

What immediately distinguishes Gaciron lights from many bicycle lights is their thoughtfully designed beam pattern. Unlike typical bike lights that project a simple circular beam pattern (often blinding oncoming traffic), the CETUS-1700 features distinct high and low beam modes that mimic automotive headlights.

During my 90-minute pre-dawn rides, the CETUS-1700 performed similarly to the Raptor-1800, providing excellent road illumination while maintaining the sophisticated cutoff pattern that prevents blinding others. The ultra-wide beam pattern, with its claimed 30-meter (about 100 feet) visual range width, effectively eliminated the tunnel vision effect common with conventional bike lights. It’s a nice wide pattern that lets you see the whole road.

The cutoff pattern isn’t merely a courtesy to others. It’s a significant safety enhancement that lets you see clearly while remaining a responsible road user. Unlike conventional bike lights that project a simple circular beam pattern that can blind oncoming cars, bikes and pedestrians, the CETUS-1700 employs professional-grade high and low beam optics with a defined cutoff line similar to automotive headlights. During my early morning rides, this meant I could use even the higher brightness settings without worrying about blinding oncoming traffic. This intelligent beam design eliminates the typical dilemma of choosing between adequate visibility for yourself and consideration for others sharing the road. With the CETUS-1700, you get both.

Battery performance proved excellent, with the 4200mAh capacity easily handling extended rides. According to specifications, you can expect runtimes from 2 hours at maximum brightness and up to 24 hours in the lowest flash mode.

Build Quality and Features

The aluminum alloy and nylon construction feels premium and durable. The USB-C charging is convenient and matches modern device standards. The IPX6 waterproof rating should provide adequate protection for most weather conditions, though I haven’t tested it in heavy rain.

At 181 grams, the light adds minimal weight while the aerodynamic benefits likely offset any performance penalty from the additional mass.

Value Proposition

At $79, the CETUS-1700 occupies the same price point as the Raptor-1800 while offering unique advantages. The integrated mounting system and aerodynamic design provide tangible benefits for cyclists who prioritize clean cockpit organization and efficiency.

The Competition

The CETUS-1700 competes with high-end lights from established brands, but its under-bar mounting system and computer integration set it apart from conventional designs. While other manufacturers offer similar brightness levels, none provide this level of cockpit integration and aerodynamic optimization.

Conclusion

The Gaciron CETUS-1700 represents innovative thinking in bicycle lighting design. For road cyclists who value both performance and aesthetics, its combination of excellent illumination, smart features, and revolutionary mounting system makes it a compelling choice.

The light’s ability to declutter your handlebars while improving aerodynamics addresses real-world concerns that go beyond simple brightness specifications. If you’re looking for a lighting solution that enhances rather than compromises your bike’s setup, the CETUS-1700 deserves serious consideration.
