QUESTION: This question has nothing to do with the physical aspects of cycling. I work part time in a bike shop, Clemmons Bicycle, in Clemmons, NC. The shop had two older cartoon pictures that I reframed recently. I’ve been trying to dig up information on the Artist because I have once before seen his work, Tom Cutter is written on the bottom right. In each picture at the top on the left hand side printed very small is “A C International”. The year is 1983. All my internet researching has resulted in zip.
My hope is that someone who has been around a while can help me find more of his art. If I could I would attached pictures. Let me know and where I can send those to help with this mystery artist and his unique perspective on cycling. – Mike H
RBR REPLIES: This seems like a good question for readers to answer, as we unfortunately don’t know anything about this cartoonist.
Readers, do you know anything about him? Here are two photos of the cartoons hanging in the shop, for reference.

If you haven’t tried it yet, the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library at Ohio State University might be able to help you. Website is https://cartoons.osu.edu. I saw a news piece on the library a few years ago, and I recall it is the authority on historical cartoons. I tried a simple search of Tom Cutter and found nothing, but maybe a call to them could get you somewhere.

Looks like some VeloNews cartoons from the 1980’s. The Magazine is no longer in paper form and is now just called Velo. I was a loyal subscriber from 1986 until early 2000’s.. Someome from their archives many be a be ale to help. I would start in 1988 and work my way back., since these would be before Patrick O’Grady who started with VeloNews in 1989. (He is another great cycling cartoonist and writer).
Second drawing is definitely a take on the Breaking Away movie from 1979.
I hope that helps,
