Colnago Unveils V4: A More “Budget-Friendly” High-Performance Road Bike

news

By Lars Hundley

Italian bicycle manufacturer Colnago has introduced its latest addition to the V Series lineup, the Colnago V4, to the United States market. This new model aims to offer many of the performance benefits of the top-tier V4Rs, used by professional cycling teams, in a more affordable configuration.

The V4 features a monocoque frame that incorporates the same carbon layup research and development and aerodynamic studies that went into the creation of the V4Rs. Colnago states that the V4 is engineered to be rigid, solid, and reactive, with a focus on providing a balance between performance and riding enjoyment.

Key features of the V4 include:

  1. Aerodynamic improvements, particularly in the front area, with a thinner headset and revised fork design compared to previous models.
  2. A focus on “real dynamic stiffness,” which aims to balance the bike’s response to various forces experienced during different riding conditions.
  3. Compatibility with both the SR10 stem and a choice between the Deda Zero2 DCR or Colnago R41 handlebars, allowing for integrated cable routing.
  4. A nominal tire clearance of 30mm, matching that of the V4Rs.

The V4 will be available in seven sloping sizes, ranging from 42cm to 57cm. For the U.S. market, Colnago is offering the V4 initially in one specific configuration:

  • Shimano Ultegra Di2 with Fulcrum Racing 600 DB wheels, priced at $6,250

This configuration includes a carbon Colnago R41 handlebar, Colnago SR10 alloy stem, Colnago carbon seatpost, and a choice of Selle Italia Novus Boost EVO or Prologo Scratch M5 saddle.

The Colnago V4 is scheduled to be available in the United States from the beginning of July.

Colnago, founded in 1954 near Milan, Italy, has a rich history in professional cycling. The company’s bikes have been ridden to numerous victories, including 15 Grand Tours, 407 Grand Tour stages, 43 Classic Monuments, 27 World Championships, and 18 Olympic Gold Medals. Most recently, Tadej Pogačar won the 2020 and 2021 editions of the Tour de France and the 2024 Giro d’Italia on Colnago bicycles.

The introduction of the V4 expands Colnago’s V Series in the U.S. market. This series, which includes models from the V1-R to the current V4Rs, is characterized by a focus on lightness, stiffness, and aerodynamics, with designs primarily aimed at high-performance riders seeking professional-level equipment.
