Bosch Reports 62 Million U.S. Miles on Smart-System eBikes

news

Bosch eBike Systems says riders in the United States have covered an estimated 62 million miles on eBikes using its smart system since the system reached the U.S. market in 2023.

The figure is based on anonymized, aggregated information from riders who opted into activity tracking through the company’s eBike Flow app. Bosch says more than 52 million miles were measured directly through connected-bike odometers and app activity records. It estimated the remaining mileage by extrapolating across all U.S. eBikes with the Bosch smart system.

Bosch did not say how many U.S. eBikes or app users were included in the data.

The data is limited to bikes using the smart system and to riders who choose to share data through the app. It does not include Bosch eBike systems sold before the smart system’s U.S. introduction.

Bosch says the recorded rides include mountain biking, commuting, errands and family transportation. The company did not release a breakdown by type of riding, bicycle or location.

“These are real miles, ridden by real people, on ordinary days,” said Jocelyn Vande Velde, Bosch eBike Systems’ North American marketing director. “Many of them are on the trail … The rest are commutes, errands, and school runs.”

Bosch also noted that it released Performance Upgrade 2.0 through the eBike Flow app in May. The over-the-air update is available for nine smart-system drive units and can increase motor torque and assistance on compatible models.

Bosch eBike Systems supplies motors, batteries, displays and connected software to bicycle brands. The company says it works with more than 100 brands worldwide.
