Question: I live in the NY/NJ metro area and would like to get a professional bike fit. Do you know of any shops or physicians in my area who would be qualified? — Dennis M.
Coach Fred Matheny Replies: Sorry, we don’t have any personal experience with resources in your area.
But for you or anyone looking for professional fit, check online for bicycle shop listings and you’re ssure to see shops advertising a fitting service. Different shops use one of the typical fit systems available today. All of them should put you into a good position from which you can make tweaks (if necessary) depending on your comfort and objectives.
Also, an experienced cycling coach can work with you one-on-one to put you into an optimum position, as can a physical therapist who specializes in working with cyclists. You can locate coaches through shops, bike clubs, USA Cycling, and even on our site.
As for PTs — some of the same resources might have listings. And, of course, ask your cycling buddies for recommendations for bike fitters in your area.
Finally, RBR has some terrific bike fit resources in our eBookstore. Just click the “Bike Fit” tag below this article, and our system will pull up all the articles (and eBooks) on our site that cover bike fittings.
