New Product: Tifosi Swank Readers

Jim’s Tech Talk

By Jim Langley

I actually reviewed a pair of Tifosi readers a while ago. They’re cycling glasses that have small readers built into the bottom of the lens so that you can see fine while riding and can also read your cycle computer display or see to find a piece of glass in a tire when fixing a flat, etc. Read more.

Is What You’re Eating Actually Food?

By Kevin Kolodziejski

A speed trap is questionable traffic enforcement. Too often, it’s designed not to ensure safety for motorists but income for backwater towns.

An ultra-processed food is a questionable food product. More often than not, it’s designed not to ensure health for consumers but revenue for food producers who are anything but backwater. Read more.

Velocio Thermal Utility Bib Tight

By Brandon Bilyeu

Summer is easy. Throw on some shorts and a short sleeve jersey and you are ready to go.  Fall, Winter, and Spring are more of a chess match with the weather. So, they sent me the new Cambion shoe, which is almost half the price and within reach of most avid cyclists. Read more.

How can I prevent cramping on long rides?

QUESTION: I’ve been riding longer road and gravel events, and I notice that I often cramp up toward the end. For example, like during the last hour of a century. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? It’s frustrating to be riding strong only to be sidelined by cramping when I need my legs the most! —Josh R.

RBR’S STAN PURDUM REPLIES: From where science currently is on this matter, there’s no single definitive answer to why we cramp while riding or how to prevent cramps from occurring. Read more.

Why Does My Heart Rate Climb During Long Rides?

QUESTION: I’m 58 and don’t understand what’s happening to my heart during longer road rides. After about 90 minutes of steady riding at around 80% of my max heart rate, it gradually climbs to 90% even though my speed, cadence and energy output remain constant. Why? — Len M. Read more.
