Chap Stick as a De Facto First Aid Kit

Today’s novel QT comes to us from Premium Member Frank Aktabowski. Here’s what he writes:

I carry “Chap Stick” as a first aid kit! Works on everything: cuts, scrapes, rashes and hot spots. I even use it on my lips.

I have found Chap Stick to be similar to Vaseline. Being much thicker, it is easier to keep in spots where it is needed. On rare occasions when my Chamois Butt’r has worn out, I have broken off a small piece of Chap Stick from the tube and rubbed it into the sore area. I have found that it actually heals the spot very quickly.

From www.chapstick.com/faqs comes a bit of explanation about how it might help:

“The Moisturize formula in ChapStick® Hydration Lock Moisturize & Renew smooths and reduces the appearance of fine lines. The Renew formula contains natural butters like Shea and Mango to instantly condition and soften lips.

“The Day formula in ChapStick® Hydration Lock Day & Night is a skin protectant/sunscreen and contains SPF 12 to help protect lips by day. The Night formula contains tamanu oil, natural butters and antioxidants to replenish your lips by night.”

I ride my bike over 10,000 miles a year. I would not leave home without it.

If you have an idea for a QT, fire away. We’re always looking for good info we can share with fellow roadies. We would love to hear from you with any suggestions you have. Contact us by clicking Quick Tips Ideas.
