By Jim Langley Today I’ll continue where I left off last week, providing additional post-crash first-aid tips for that all-important two-wheeled crash victim. Check the frame and fork If you have a steel or aluminum bike, and you had a front-end impact, like riding into an obstacle or hitting a large pothole, it’s…

By Stan Purdum Most cyclists need a floor pump. If you have an air compressor with the proper adapter, it can be effective and useful for putting on tubeless road or tubeless mountain bike tires and seating them on the rim. But for day to day usage, a floor pump is essential for filling and…
Two New Ultra-Portable Bike Racks Here are two new products that I can definitely see some value in: ultra-portable bike racks. Trunk Monkey, slated to be available in October, sells for $135 and is an inflatable rack that attaches to almost any type of automobile. The key feature is that it is imminently portable. You…

Wondering if you could do a story on how to wear cycling shorts. Gonna sound weird how I explain this, but I know of no other way. Sounds simple but for me it’s not. I’ve been cycling for 40 years and occasionally still have problems with comfort. Not sure whether to have the shorts tight against my rear or leave room for body parts. I find sometimes I have to pull and tug at the chamois parts to relieve pressure. Sometimes I can ride 50 miles in comfort and sometimes my bottom is sore after 10 miles unless I start repositioning the chamois. I can ride the same shorts on different occasions. Sometimes nice, sometimes not. I ride in Castelli’s that fit real snug as well as store brands that are not so snug. Doesn’t matter which. Sometimes good, sometimes pain. Just would like to know if theres a proper way to position the shorts and chamois when I put them on to provide comfort for a long ride. I wear bib shorts exclusively.
I too have experienced similar experiences with my Castelli’s. What has helped me is to do a 30-second to 1 minute legs-spread squat before leaving on a ride. I’ve also started pulling up on my shorts so that there’s no baggy-extra short material; in other words, my snug than loose. For the most part it has been working. However . . . I do think that it should be ILLEGAL to make chamoises that are rough! ATIKA, ATIKA!! 🙂
Read your review on the Bont shoe, excellent review. NOW, try and purchase this shoe in the southern California area, from LA to San Diego, every bike shop tell me that they do not carry the Bont line as an in store selection but can order the shoe, when was the last time anyone should buy a $400 pair of shoes without first trying on the shoes.
I would think your reviews should be on items that one can find in local bike shops, at least in those cities the size of San Diego and LA.
Enjoy you publication.
Hi. Is the new book “Preventing Cycling Ailments Bundle: Butt, Hands, Feet; Cramps; Nutrition; Psychology” a real book (i.e., paper) or an e-book?
Thanks.

I have extreme leg cramps only in 70.3 triathalons after bike but immediately on run. Have been trying to figure out for 3 years. Anything shorter race = no cramps. No cramping on training bikes/runs that are performed under race pace.
