Team AMANI, a professional cycling development program based in East Africa, has announced a new partnership with Nix Biosensors, a company specializing in health biosensing technologies. The goal of this collaboration is to enhance the training regimen of Team AMANI’s cyclists using the Nix Hydration Biosensor, a device that monitors hydration levels in real-time.

According to Nix Biosensors, the device measures both fluid and electrolyte losses, offering data-driven guidance for athletes about their fluid intake needs during training and competitions. It’s intended to aid in preventing dehydration, optimizing training, and potentially improving overall performance.

Jean Hubert Nkurayija, the Director of AMANI Rwanda, expressed enthusiasm for this partnership. “Hydration is a crucial factor in the performance and well-being of our cyclists, especially in the hot climate we often train in. With Nix, our athletes can now monitor their hydration levels in real time,” said Nkurayija.

The Hydration Biosensor will also be incorporated into The Spoke Academy’s curriculum. The Academy is an initiative by Team AMANI designed to identify and nurture young talent in Rwanda and equip them with resources and support for their cycling career.

Meridith Cass, CEO and Founder of Nix, said, “Our Hydration Biosensor is a non-invasive solution to empower athletes with real-time data on their hydration levels, helping them perform at their best. We look forward to seeing how Team AMANI’s athletes utilize the Nix Hydration Biosensor to optimize their training.”

Four athletes from Team AMANI are currently preparing for the Unbound Gravel race in Emporia, Kansas. Jordan Schleck, Geoffrey Langat, Charles Kagimu, and John Kariuki have been using the Nix biosensor in their training and have made adjustments to their hydration plans based on the data provided by the device.

“The personalized data we received using the Nix Hydration Biosensor is unparalleled,” noted AMANI coach Owen Searle, expressing hope for successful race outcomes as a result of these tailored hydration strategies.
