Q: How can I stop black marks from getting all over my water bottles? If there is no solution, how can I get rid of the marks? — Keith L.
COACH FRED: Those marks are tough to remove. Try a little scouring powder on a sponge or a Brillo pad. Be careful, because scrubbing could remove the bottle’s graphics, too. Try a non-abrasive bathroom product made to prevent scratches on fixtures. Maybe readers have other suggestions.
You could use dark bottles that don’t show marks. But they make it hard to tell if a bottle is clean inside or growing things you’d rather not be drinking.
To prevent marks from appearing, use non-aluminum bottle cages or aluminum cages with plastic buttons that contact the bottle. Aluminum is what makes the marks.
