I have two QTs for you today related to mounting new tires.
- Before mounting a brand new tire onto a rim, lay the tire out in the sun for an hour (on at least a moderately warm day). Once it’s warmed up, it stretches just enough to allow easy install.
- Scrub your tires. New tires are slippery at best. Dangers include slide-outs when cornering at high speeds, etc.
I put the bike on a stand, then using a piece of 120 grit sandpaper, I start by spinning the back tire by turning the cranks by hand. I press the sandpaper onto the tire left side, right side then middle. Just enough so I can see that the ‘high polished glaze’ has been removed and a dull finish is now covering the entire tire.
If you have an idea for a QT, fire away. We’re always looking for good info we can share with fellow roadies. We would love to hear from you with any suggestions you have. Contact us by clicking Quick Tips Ideas.
