Question of the Week

Today’s QoW is another from our own Coach David Ertl. It follows the theme of the last 2 weeks’ questions of upgrading (or not). NOTE: you may find this Question under Past Questions of the Week on the QoW page.

(We really need to replenish our stock of Questions! Please submit you own QoW ideas using the Question of the Week Ideas link.)

How many gears are on the cassette of your everyday road bike?

Hi barriers to entry. Going from 10 to 11 is $$$$$. Basically you will need not only a complete new groupset but also new wheels. Its usually less expensive to get a whole new bike.

10!!! The 11,12 cassettes are just a profit driven item that is not necessary.

sadly the industry is phasing 10 out – I’m a campy fan and unless I downgrade quality, the 10v system is no longer available. Profit and $$$$$$$. tha extra gears may enhance the day for the elite riders in the world peleton but but cyclists in hgeneral, nothing!
    for real enhancement, try “mgtechbikes.com.”
