Today’s QoW comes to us from our own Coach David Ertl. It’s a timely question, as just 2 weeks ago the founder of Specialized predicted all road bikes will feature disc brakes within 2 years. (Methinks he’s trying to push product he’s invested in, but it’s certainly a trend.)
(We really need to replenish our stock of Questions! Please submit you own QoW ideas using the Question of the Week Ideas link.)

I made the leap when I replaced my 12 yr. old road bike w/ a 2015 Giant Defy Advanced Pro 1. In spite of the negligible weight penalty, the improved modulation and confidence in all conditions made it a natural choice.

Local bike store replaced my custom titanium Berg under an insurance deal. The new Moots titanium bike came with hydraulic disk brakes. Love them, particularly in wet weather particularly on steep twisting descents. Love the security of immediate braking, rather than waiting for the rims to dry out. Also, don’t have to worry about rims blowing apart, which has unexpectedly occurred on a front wheel!! I did not crash, but I certainly experienced a few ‘exciting moments!!
