Shoes

I need to replace my worn Look cleats. How do I make sure the new cleats are aligned like the old ones?

Where should the big toe joint be relative to the middle of the cleat? Should I position my foot so the pedal axle is below the bulge of the joint or just behind it?

II like to use my mountain bike pedals and shoes for road biking, but I get funny looks on group rides. What shoes do you use?

How much performance am I giving up if I use mountain bike shoes and pedals?

I suffer from "hot foot" when doing long rides. I understand that a metatarsal bump built into an insole just behind the ball of the foot would spread my metatarsal bones and relieve the nerve pressure that causes the discomfort. I've heard that insoles made this way come in Specialized Body Geometry shoes, but I don't want to buy new shoes. Are the insoles sold separately?

I have orthotics for walking and running and have heard they're useful for cycling, too. My podiatrist, a non-athlete, isn't very enthused. Will these orthotics improve my riding performance?

My custom Lamson cycling shoes have lasted for 30,000+ miles, including racing and loaded touring. Now, they're near the end of the road. I haven't been able to contact Don Lamson. Has he retired? Does anyone else make custom cycling shoes

I just bought a pair of expensive road shoes by mailorder and they're slightly too large. Is there any way to make them fit?

I wore thick wool socks all winter to keep my feet warm. Now I've found that my shoes have stretched and my feet flop around when I wear light summer socks. Can you recommend a cycling insole to take up the extra space so I don't have to buy new shoes?

My expensive cycling shoes are killing my feet! When I ride more than three hours, my left big toe takes such a beating that it bleeds. I have tried loosening the straps and wearing thinner socks but nothing helps. My feet are wide at the toes, American size 11, D or E. Can I fix these shoes?
