RBR's Roads

These 19 photos were taken on road rides in the OIey and Lehigh Valleys near RBR's southeastern Pennsylvania headquarters. Snapped by Ed Pavelka within 20 miles (32 km) of the office, as the crow flies, in October and November 2008.

Roll your cursor onto each photo and a short caption may appear.

A view of Hawk Mtn., famous for being on the flyway of migrating hawks, eagles and other birds of prey. I haven't been attacked yet.

Just like I like 'em -- too narrow and too lightly traveled for painted lines!

I stopped on the road in front of a house that has this view from its picture window.

Some of these roads have a speed limit of 45 mph (72 kph); others are 35 mph (56 kph). Most drivers aren't in a hurry.

I ride enough different roads that I can't even recall where this photo was taken!

The climb over Churchill Rd. Can you spot the steeple?

West Shore Drive alongside Lake Ontelaunee near the town of Hamburg. Lake level is one place to find flat pavement.

On top of the climb before the descent to Lake Ontelaunee. Looks like New England, doesn't it?

One of the longer and steeper hills, and you're looking at the tough side up.

In the Oley Valley. Wouldn't this also be a nice road for a run?

The British are coming! This farm dates to the 1700s.

This old back road goes on like this for about 12 miles (19 km).

I've waited out summer thunderstorms in this old covered bridge.

Typical climb. Hills are good for you . . . hills are good for you . . . hills are good for you . . . hills are good for you . . .

Taken from a small, one-lane stone bridge more than 100 years old.

Mill Creek Rd. There must be half a dozen different roads with this name in the area.

Near the top of my favorite climb from the Oley Valley, almost 2 miles up.

Looking west at the long ridge called Blue Mountain.

Maple 'n' moon, about 3 miles from RBR near the end of a great ride (aren't they all?).

Moonrise & maple. That's it! Thanks for taking a look.
